What Piano exercises

December 29, 2017 By Dave F Leave a Comment

What piano exercises should you do? Why do Piano exercises? What benefit will they have?

Whatever your thoughts on exercises for strengthening your fingers or warming up, they are important.

I generally enjoy playing them if there’s a musical element to them. As you further your playing you will come across Hanon exercises and the various opinions on them.  I play one or two of the exercises myself as a warmup, but I don’t think I would study them in detail.

Some course I have reviewed, such as “Shawn Cheek’s Webpianoteacher“and “Learn and Master” express their importance.

I came across the following video on Youtube, which I enjoyed.  Five exercises with varying difficulty, but anyone can play them. Start slowly and build up the required speed. The essence is building up strength.

The pieces are musical – one is even a boogie-woogie exercise.

I’ll post more exercise videos in future posts.

Enjoy and Happy New Year.
